A Bulwark for the Soul

What does it mean to be truly safe in a world that seems increasingly hostile to faith? That question sits at the heart of this rich exploration of Psalm 48, where the image of a bulwark -- a great fortified wall -- becomes the lens through which we understand the church's role in our lives. The sermon draws a striking connection between the ancient Israelite's experience of the temple as a place of protection and our own need for the church as a fortress against what the tradition calls the world, the flesh, and the devil. We are not strong enough on our own, and the sermon does not flatter us into thinking otherwise. Instead, it calls us to honest self-assessment: we need walls around our faith, and Christ is the cornerstone upon which those walls are built. The saints who follow Him, generation after generation, are the stones that stack up to form that bulwark. This is not a message about retreating from life -- it is a message about knowing where our strength actually comes from and building our lives accordingly.
