Session 1: Part 2—A Spirit of Receptivity

In this session, we move beyond a purely logical approach to trusting the Church and explore it through a relational lens. While we’ve established that the Church, as One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic, is led by the Spirit into all Truth, we must also address the emotional and historical barriers that hinder trust—particularly in light of the Reformation.

Through the metaphor of the Church as Mother, we consider how past wounds, both personal and historical, have led to a spirit of protest rather than receptivity. Drawing from Scripture, Church Fathers, and personal experience, we reflect on how Confirmation serves as an opportunity for healing and reconciliation—an act of returning to the Church as a trusted Mother.

Finally, we apply this Catholic Epistemology by testing it against real-world theological questions. What does it mean to trust the Church? What are the limits of that trust? And how does this framework help us assess doctrines like Confirmation, Marian dogmas, and infant baptism? Join us as we continue to rediscover the wisdom of the historic Church and cultivate a Spirit of Receptivity.
